Stay Woke. We figured with the shine Miss Muldrow is getting with her “Master Teacher” track on Erykah Badu’s new album, a feature on Georgia Anne was long overdue and the perfect candidate for our first “Frolab Artist Fro-phile.” If you are unfamiliar with this womans production skills, vivid lyrics and vocal prowess, you are in for a treat because now you have no excuse!! She sings, produces (Jimetta Rose, Eagle Nebula & others) and occasionally spits a few bars – but not your typical ‘verse-bridge-hook-1key’ type of songs so if you only like that, she may not be for you. Georgia Anne Muldrow has been on the ‘underground’ scene for at least the last 5 years – many were first introduced to her on DJ Jamad’s Suite 903 #7 back in 2004. He says “When I first heard Georgia Ann Muldrow I grew wings. I felt like flying – damn skippy! She gave birth to many artist that we hear today. Nothing is beating this sampler even today. YOU CAN FEEL IT!”

“When Cognito played me “Love Again” it struck me like a wiff of homemade apple pie walking by that had been turned upside down and had been made with pears instead. What I mean is that georgia was immediately familiar but so freakin on her own page I had to stop and really pay attention. Anytime “I’ve played that for anyone they’re like,”who is that?!!!” I get thousands of demos. Literally. I throw 99.9% of them out. That one I saved . . .”
- DJ Bobbito Garcia a.k.a. Kool Bob Love

This sampler from 2003 that floated around still gets major rotation on my playlist, and more currently, a handful of projects released that you can buy on iTunes, etc. While my personal preference is her solo work on “Olesi” & “Worthnothings”, in the true spirit of “frolaboration’ she’s done a few projects with Dudley Perkins including the G&D project. Here’s our breakdown of the discography:

Olesi Fragments Of An Earth (2006)
This is one album I’ll listen to for the rest of my life. If you don’t get it on first listen, give yourself the gift of repeat. Everytime I listen there’s a new favorite – her lyrics are so on time and like poetry, have many interpretations and its likely you’ll find something that speaks directly to you. “The light within will live on forever – be encouraged in all you endeavor.” Her phrasing and choices of notes to play and sing are definitely new to your ears and once you tune in, its hard to change the channel. “Speakervision to repel the negative charge.”

Worthnothings (2006) / + Instrumentals
I think lyrically, she’s spreading beautiful and important messages. When you listen to all of her at once, you can tell what points she’s been at in her life. You can hear the frustration and victory and everything in between. And especially for us 20/30sumthin females out there, you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t give her some of your time! Its like falling in love with a new poet, instrumentalist and songstress all at once. Sometimes I listen to her words and think “exactly! that’s how I felt!” Maybe she’ll publish a book of her lyrics… (Georgia, holla at us so we can freak your book layout!)

Chrome Children: Simply a Joy
“Simply a Joy” from Chrome Children CD/DVD
This is one of my favorite songs. Put this on and *BAM*, instant good mood.

Pattie Blingh And The Akebulan Five: Sagala
I go back and listen to this and wonder why I thought I didn’t really like it at first. Under her alias, “Patti Blingh”, this album is still classic Georgia with her dischorded stacked harmonies that she should patent bc there are some biters on the horizon, standard rhythmic beats and soft vocals that sneaks in some good quotables. She’s really sayin some thangs! “Freedom fries in hot grease!!” Think on that. Dope cover art too.

Beautiful Mindz
A mix of instrumentals & vocals, this has some nice tracks – but like I said earlier – I prefer her solo work. She’s more ‘background vocals’ on this project and its one of those things where you hear her singing and just want more! DP’s voice isn’t my fave so its an odd conflict bc I listen for those brief moments where Georgia is the lead. Overall, it is pretty fonky… so try and let it “set u free.”

G&D Message Uni Versa
Again, a lil too much D and not enough G. Strictly my opinion – but, I’ve talked to many who agree. Regardless, overall it feels good – I just prefer Georgia’s singing to Dudley’s… talking. No hate. Shouts out to Tokio on the sick cover work!

Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime “SomeOthaShip: Connect Game” (2008) coming soon
From what I hear on the myspace page, I definitely like this personality of DP as “Declaime” the MC more than his singing. I look forward to this release.

Eagle Nebula
Also coming 2008, Eagle Nebula “Cosmic Headphones” produced by Georgia Anne Muldrow. Tokio deserves another shout out for the FRESH artwork!

More EPs from Georgia
If you check on iTunes or HipHopSite you’ll see a few other EPs available that I haven’t gotten… If you think there’s anything else worth mentioning, that’s what the comment box is for.

A few international folks have gotten the chance to see her live and shared a few snippets with us via youtube:

All of you artists on the grind scared to do multiple projects afraid of “brand dilution” – peep game. Its 2008 and you gotta feed your audiences and once people find you, its up to them to keep up. I give it up to this sista making it happen on so many fronts. Hopefully she’ll touch down in LA again so we can catch a show and hit her off with some Frolab gear, but looks like you gotta be overseas if you want to see her anytime soon. We’ll keep you posted on any tour dates we hear of. Til then – Pick Fros!!
