We went to check out one of the recent additions to my list of favorite singers: Alice Smith Saturday night at a very cute venue in Hollywood, The Hotel Cafe. She sounds as good live as she does on the album and did not disappoint at all. This girl can SANG! Her album “For lovers, dreamers & me” was originally released in 2006 on BBE and re-released this year on Epic. She was nominated for a Grammy for the song “Dream” that was featured on Entourage and a few other tv shows recently. Look out for a new album coming this summer/fall to follow up this sleeper. Hopefully this album will be her “frank” and the next one will get people fully in the know. but for those of you who been ready… check out some highlights from the evening…

performing “Desert Song”…

& “Do I”

She also sang a few new songs that sounded good. Its hard to categorize her music which is ideal for creators but often hard for receivers who need some sort of ‘label’ – my take on it is that its kinda rock-n-soul. You should definitely check her out if she comes to a town near you – from her site, most shows are $15 or less. A steal. She’s also opening up for Citizen Cope on a few dates and will be back in LA if you missed her this time.
