As some of you may know the Brooklyn Circus has a pop-up shop

in SF. They’ve recently set up a collaborative party with another shop,

Acrimony, in Hayes valley. I had to be in the place to be and the party

was dope! Of course I took a few frotos?! Check it.

With Paid dues being canceled last weekend people were missing out on some of their favorite acts. Luckily Mos Def came to the rescue with Zion-I and rocked it at Ruby Skye, here are a few Afro-pics.

Stop by the flickr page for more photos!

Been In This Game For Years

June 19th, 1865 marks the day that the last slaves were freed and is referred to as “Juneteenth.” Growing up, my parents were always heading to a Juneteenth celebration in Maryland, Virginia or South Carolina. Now living on the west coast, I haven’t felt that there is the same kind of connection to ‘black history’ as you feel when in the south. And historically, that makes since. It also doesn’t seem like our younger generation spends much time remembering these ’slave’ holidays but I think its worth mentioning, especially if you don’t know anything about it! Take a little time to think about the ‘freedom’ we are now born with and what you’ve been able to do with it and what you’re not doing with it! Freedom ain’t free! Do something with it! We’ve come a long way but there is still much progress to make - we all have a part to play! Just stay wit it. Here’s a link to a Time magazine brief history on the day and google it for more info if you’re interested.

Its a good week to be a black man huh? First Tiger Woods came and gave us a bonus day of official championship play winning the US Open. Then we witness an (almost) completely all black NBA team led by a black coach and Jesus Shuttlesworth - they ALL got game!! And, to quote Nito - “we are talking about basketball here.” Mucho props to Kobe for making it this far “with a bunch of bums” (to quote Brother Raheem) but we gotta give a respectful congratulations to the Celtics for putting the cap on a great season.
