There’s an interesting article (with some fly artwork by Philip Burke) in the New Yorker today about the experience of watching your music come out of a laptop. Its crazy bc we’ve been at some events and also get perplexed at how some DJs really look like they could be playing solitaire while their Serato does the tricks. Its convenient and completely in tune with our ‘digital age’ however its sorta boring to watch. Remember being mesmerized by the DJ flippin records, going back and forth between breaks, actually having to turn around to dig in their crates? Times are a’changin. The article talks to Brooklyn band “Battles” and I guess its worth mentioning that 1 of their guitarists, Tyondai Braxton, rocks a fro!!

Take it way back

Man that’s real talk! Those definatly were the good ol days!
But I know there’s still a good mix of DJs who still will only play vinyl……
All good though, jus makes you respect the true DJs w/ real talent more. It’s sorta like mainstream hip hop today VS old skool hip hop or the REAL hip hop that out there……..
KRS one has a dope song out called “The DJ” which should be deadicated to this post and all the true/real DJs around the world!
