Saturday was a cold and rainy day in the Bay Area. As I set out to attend a dance
recital in support of a good friend I heard a rumor about another shooting in
in Oakland. My first thoughts were, “Not another B.A.R.T incident?!”, well it wasn’t.
Lovelle Mixon, 26, a parolee from Oakland was pulled over for unstated reason. I’m
curious about that but they now say there was a warrant for his arrest , whether this
was post incident info or pre is not stated either. At the moment he is labeled as
killing officers in the O.P.D., Sgt. Mark Dunakin, Sgt. Ervin Romans and Sgt. Dan Sakai
Lovelle Mixon was also killed in this incident, he was paroled on a charge of asslt.
with a deadly weapon. This is a very difficult time in our country with bail-out and
bonuses making the headlines so frequently, I wonder how this will affect the
average black man? We all remember the BART shooting and this occurring so
close to the preliminary trail of that episode? I hope that my fears are unsubstan-
tiated, but being black in Oakland may have just gotten more challenging. I just
wanted to keep people aware by posting this, all my Frolaborators be safe!
