“Roses” by Georgia Anne Muldrow & Mos Def :
the unofficial new theme song for Art Therapy!
We had a chance to ask Georgia Anne Muldrow for some lyric clarity on the song “Roses” featured on Mos Def’s new album “The Ecstatic,” about the pencil shout out and, so you know, she’s biggin up her favorite drawing tool – a red Stabilo pencil.
“when I’m down
i just draw some roses
on a pretty piece of paper
with my red Stabilo pencil
halfway thru
i feel so much better
i imagine happiness
and it runs right to me
such amazing beauty”
The pencil is pretty cool! Writes on paper, glass, plastic and metal and I found a pack at a film supplies store bc they write good on.. film! So, there u have it. Now, get some pretty paper and watch the video below to learn how to draw u some roses! It’ll make u feel so much better!! (I think Stabilo should at least send Georgia a lifetime supply of pencils!)
I watched a few instructional videos on drawing roses, and here’s my “How to draw a rose” pick…
tip – mute the video and play the song!
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
(I’m calling this song for best duo Grammy nomination, & if it were up to me it would totally win!)
The original version of Roses w/o Mos Def will be on Georgia’s upcoming album UMSINDO. Check the first single “E.S.P.” now available for download on FreshSelects. Lots more coverage of the UMSINDO release coming this month on Frolab!
