Just picked up the new issue (#2) today. Dope magazine putting a spotlight on the photographers that have captured the culture over the years.
IMO: I guess you have to shoot for XXL to get in the mag. One day!
Or maybe I start my own for the new cats capturing the scene…Stay Tuned.

“I guess you have to shot for XXL to get in the mag.”
i’m hoping you’re just saying that to be cute, not because you really believe it.
Good call EXO. And i hope you don’t have to be shot(ex-Tupac and 50 on the cover) to get in the mag. I hope to one day shoot (Frotos) for XXL then my photos will be in Respect. I guess!
LOL. After two issues it seems like most of the photos and or photographers have shot for XXL in the past. Just hoping they open up a lane for other photogs capturing the culture today. I have a gang of contacts thru Flickr who are SICK with the Lens.
we’re dealing with the photographers we have relationships with. our photo editor, was the photo editor of XXL for eight years, so, naturally, that’s where a lot of her contacts lie. also, we’re doing hip-hop photography and, seeing as XXL was the top hip-hop publication for past decade or so, once again, it’s natural that there’s overlap.
as for your gang of contacts, it seems like it would make more sense to reach out to us instead of making half-joking assumptions and plans of attack if you really wanted to be in the mag and thought you had the stuff to hang.
or you could get shot and take your shirt off. then you could be on the cover. as long as you have tattoos. you do have tattoos, yes?
Don’t understand why your taking this as a “Shot”at you or the mag
And yes your right it would make sense to reach out if that was my MO.
Thank you for making the mag and checkin us at frolab.
I was making an assumption on who would be featured in the magazine and thank you for proving me right. I love the concept and was just making a point about where that concept was heading so far after two issues.
No dis-Repect! Not try to battle you in print just saying that maybe in time we will have a place or magazine to spotlight other photograpers that shoot hip hop. Yes like myself. Not going to speak for anybody else. (see post where i said IMO..)
Salute to you and the staff.
“Stay Wit It”
Twitter is turning us into smarter people everyday,

The quote says:
“I guess you have to shot for XXL to get in the mag.”
Since spell-check didn’t catch the typo, my first interpretation would be:
“I guess you have to shoot for XXL to get in the mag.”
However, I could also see how others might think that you meant:
“I guess you have to get shot for XXL to put you in the mag.”
Either way, this convo is quite interesting when looking at the parties involved.
V: i’m not quite taking anything as shots fired. not at all. just clarifying. there’s no agenda as to who can or can’t be in the magazine. if you have great shots, of subjects we believe our audience is interested in, you’re in. it’s that simple. this may be the third time i’m writing it (the first time was inferred), but i’m not sure if you’re reading it right.
greatly appreciate the kudos. if you’re interested in being in the mag, and you seriously think you can hang, throw your portfolio in the ring. (that makes four times, now.)
you don’t even have to get shot and take your shirt off.
KCC: i was being facetious about the being shot part. sigh.
V: just seeing the e-mail you sent off yesterday, so i’m going on the record here as saying you *did* catch what i was getting across. duuuuh on my part.
