DWNLD:De La Soul Salutes EP *FREE DWNLD*

Redefinition Records selected some of its favorite producers that share one collective love: De La Soul. On this EP, each producer expresses this long lasting love through a remix, remake or tribute. This does not result in a random collection of same ol’ remixes, but each track reflects personal influences and inspiration. A personal, unique style just like De La had its very own eclectic sound.

K-Def‘s remix of ‘Stakes Is High’ kicks in the hardest with banging drums and the remarkable use of the Ahmad Jamal sample. Of course it includes the infamous ‘Vibes… Vibrations’ by James Brown as wellHost K-Murdock‘s track is more subtle with an ambient touch, reminiscent to the mellow style on ’The Scenic Route’ by his hip hop group Panacea.

On the other hand, we have DJ Stitches & BP. The obscure movie samples on their remake of ‘Millie Pulled A Gun On Santa’ are explicit and give this version an extra playful dimension. Astronote‘s track is completely different compared to the aforementioned contributions. The tribute by the French producer slightly leans towards an electronic orientated beat.

Thanks for the shout-out, Kathy! Just a bit of advice…exporting to EPS works a ltltie better than AI because it preserves the color palette (RGB). The AI export usually dulls the colors. It’s weird that you can’t copy and paste from Flash to Illustrator, but you CAN copy and paste from Illustrator to Flash.
