We went to check out the BMI Urban Awards last night for some real authentic urban entertainment. It kinda felt like a 106 & Park virtual reality experience (after not watching it for over a year), with sounds, sights and scents (eeew) reminiscent of the A!!! Shouts out to Atlanta who was DEFinitely in the house rackin up all the awards… well, the half that T-Pain didn’t scoop up for self. That dude’s percentage of the 900 million BMI made this year has gotta be close to half if not more!! Crazy.
We frospotted Plantlife’s Jack Splash while hanging during the pre-show…
and got a extra special treat w/ the Jabbawockeez from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew doing their part of the night’s Jackson 5 tribute. They rocked silver versions of their trademark masks and AFROS! Check out this “Dancing Machine” clip we captured at the show…
In the house accepting the honors were all the Jacksons, sans Michael (bummer) - but it was cool to see all the brothers AND Janet, LeToya and Reba and mama and papa J. We were up top so really only got pix of the screens…
& I dunno why, but I saw this in the girls bathroom and it just kinda summed up the awards for some reason!

What a busy weekend! Sorry for the delay on the recap - but here we go…
Stacy rockin a custom Frolab dress!
What a night! Thanks for everyone who came thru and blessed the room with their energy and love. It was a beautiful crowd enjoying a beautiful view…
and most importantly, the beautiful MUSIC! DJ Kaleem, Cha Cha Jones, Proh Mic and Amdex
ALL kept the room feeling good and then Stacy Epps came on and DID HER ThANG!!
She sang the Flying Lotus produced track “Cosmic Dust”, one of my personal favorites produced by Amdex “Addicted”, the Madvillian track (that still gets stuck in my head!) “Eye” & of course the bangin single “Floatin.” Listen to a 22 minute montage of the audio from all my mpegs from the night that were too dark to post the video but we can still enjoy the music!!
Shouts out to her band Rhythm Child - Everette James on drums , Amdex at the tables & Rashida Ali on the flute! & lets talk again about the house and the VIEW!!

Los Angeles 180º around you! It was so beautiful to take in the whole experience. & also we MUST not forget to mention the visual art provided by frolaborators HVW8

Her pieces completely transformed the room and for those of you who were there you got to witness her talent in action as she did a live painting of Stacy.

emoniFela hosted the jam session with Computer Jay on the Fender Rhodes, J1 on drums & more artists adding to the rhythms…
& we had quite a few unexpected guests…
including Prince Po, Droop & DRES! We got some of Flava for the Month and lots of impromptu musical moments that are exactly what’s supposed to happen at jam sessions!
All in all - a really beautiful night. Many thanks to everyone who came out and to the crew -Charyn and Project MuzeEd, Kasey at VeeV, Asya and Fusicology, Asad from Footlong Development, Ty G at HVW8 and everyone at the House of Armour - Chris, Mike - and everyone who helped out before, during & after! The entire event was a fantastic frolaboration!!
The best of wishes go out to Stacy & EJ as they head over to Europe tomorrow for a few months of spreading the music with Roxanne Shante, Bahamadia, Yarah Bravo and Invincible. Cop the album “The Awakening” NOW AVAILABLE ON iTUNES! & also in-store at TurntableLab LA, FatBeats or buy it direct from her myspace page (recently redesigned by Frolab) www.myspace.com/stacyepps! Don’t sleep - this is 1 that your will WANT to listen to… more than once!! In this day and age there aren’t that many new albums that even get repeat status in the rotation - but you can’t even get tired of hearing her sweet and warm voice. & If you happen to be in a town she’s heading to, be sure to check her out!!

Understand that this group right here is one of Atlanta’s pillars (meaning: 1 of the first hip hop groups to put it down for the A!) they help forge a path for the south to be heard in their time b4 OutKast,T.I, or Lil John on some Hip hop shit not because they were from the south.

National Public Radio show “All Things Considered” did a feature yesterday on Atlanta’s indie soul scene. It was the first of a series of shows they will be doing on cities around the country.
For this inaugural report, NPR spoke with India Arie, along with fellow musicians Anthony David and Julie Dexter, and Freddy Luster, owner of the now-defunct yet eternally classic Yin Yang Cafe, among others. You can read more and listen to the show here.
Shouts out to DJ Kemit, Darryl at Moods Music, and all those who they didn’t mention but should’ve (DJ Jamad, Joi, etc) & all the other frolaborators holding ATL down!

Definitely go see Estelle tonight in ATL if you’re around. Her new album “Shine” is getting HEAVY rotation with me! Love this album & plan on seeing her out here in LA at the Temple Bar next month.

Pre-order it or find a lil fairy online to deliver it to your downloads folder. (and then buy it when it comes out!)
