Check out these images I took of Mos Def while we were in South Africa last month. Mos was rockin Neighborhood new collection heavy at the Cape of Great Hope and on stage in Jozi. These frotos got to NBHD and is now the unofficial lookbook for their new collection. (Holla at me Shinsuke Takizawa – L/XL jackets/t-shirt/34W Jeans
and shouts out to Nixon Watches, Visvim, Converse JPN, Stark Laces & UNDRCRWN.) No stylist was used for these pics – This is Black Dante everyday.

“Culture Capture Champs™”

An unlikely representative of NEIGHBORHOOD’s 2009 1st Ex. Series “Holidays in the Sun” collection is none other than fan-favorite in American Hip-Hop artist Mos Def. Having seen the prolific lyricist dressed in diverse styles ranging from Visvim Folk FBTs to his own sub-collection with UNDRCRWN, the styling shots seen here include some seasonal highlights from NEIGHBORHOOD such as the APOCALYPSE . VE / E-JKT studded leather jacket in blue/black. Starks shoelaces in his Chucks as well?

With all the fashion week madness going on in New York- its always refreshing to stop by the events that everyone can benefit from… ya know, with music, spirits, clothes at a thrifty price, and goody goody bags.
We supported Kathryn Finney, AKA “The Budget Fashionista”, at her 5th Anniversary Fashion Week bash last night in NY. Kathryn started the popular thebudgetfashionista.com out of a need to share how she managed to find harmony between budget woes and designer fashion must have tantrums. She penned the bestselling book How to Be a Budget Fashionista and has been blowing up all over television and magazines in her quest to keep the budgeter’s mind creative when it comes to all things fashion.
Last night’s event was held at the Housing Works Thrift Store- so you know our tongues were wagging! With price tags ranging from $90 to $12 on all things from designer clothes to shoes- um yes. $12… we obviously found a new obsession. Dashing Diva was offering manicures, Lane Bryant provided real life models, we ate cheese and drank wine to good music.
I’d read earlier on her site thebudgetfashionista.com, that “In her free time, Kathryn likes to crank call credit card companies, plot ways for Marc Jacobs to premier a clothing line at Wal-Mart, use her glue gun with reckless abandon, and shop at her local “Sally’s Boutique” (aka Salvation Army).” And after chatting with the queen fashionista – we concur the quote to be absolutely true. Not only completely down to earth, but her brother and mother were there in support- and the whole family represented something fierce. Kathryn’s bash was the sophisticated line between high fashion and all of our real budgets.
some frotos…
