Madvillainy Box Set pre-order

Posted on July 23rd, 2008 by visionist.
Categories: Design.

Some might say its sacrilege to revisit a classic album like Madvillainy. You know, like George Lucas messing around with Star Wars and digitally inserting Jabba The Hut rapping with Han Solo. But Madlib’s never been one to respect convention - and he made this one for headphone listening while on a ten-hour plane ride to Tokyo. But this reworking (we hate to say remix) was so good that, after we sat with it for a while, we decided that we had to make it available.

Yeah, we’re waiting for the new Madvillain too. Every once in a while we hear from DOOM, and he tells us he’s getting closer. Madlib still sends him beat CDs. DOOM always remembers our birthdays. But, we don’t have the sequel, and we know every nuance of Madvillainy. So we’ve been bumping this album while we’re patiently waiting. And it’s been good. Like visiting with a friend who you haven’t seen in years and remembering why you were friends to begin with.

So now you get a chance to get in on it too.

This album will only be available through our website - we just launched our own store. You know, cut out the middleman, fuck the establishment…. That type of vibe. So here we are, saying: “We’ve got something special. And we’re going to sell it to you in a big ass box full of cool ass shit that you won’t be able to get anywhere else.”

We’re manufacturing based on pre-orders. If you order it, you’re guaranteed to get one. If you decide to wait, well, you might not. These things are difficult and expensive to make. That’s why we’re selling them for a lot of money. And you’ve noticed the ship date right? They’re going to take a while to manufacture. So you’ll have to wait a little while. We’ll do everything we can to beat that ship date, but that’s a guaranteed date. If we don’t ship on September 15th, Peanut Butter Wolf will DJ at your house for you. Any day except Tuesday.

Madvillainy “2” The Box
$124.99 plus shipping
Pre-order: until August 15th
Ship date: September 15th

DOOM’s Original Demo

Madvillainy “2” The Madlib Remix
$9.99 MP3 Album

Phila: Keys To The City Feat. The Roots

Posted on July 15th, 2008 by visionist.
Categories: Artist Fro-phile, Design, Fixed Gear, FroHabitat, Frolaborators, Nitelife, Philly.

Got hipped to this from a cat named Will who sent us this press release - Thats what i like to see in the inbox something relevant, informative and good!

Here some info about the project and links to a dope playlist.

“I‘ve never dripped sweat onto the floors of The Ukie, made it out to “Making
Time,” got my fingers dusty at Armands, or stumbled across The Roots rockin’
the corner of 5th & Passyunk. I wasn’t there. So I live vicariously through
you lucky few that were there or are there now. In an effort to exorcise my
envy I started a project called Keys to the City focusing on Philly.

I enlisted the help of my two favorite Philly artists (the Roots and Diplo) and a website that basically taught me about hip-hop (okayplayer) to tell your story to the world wide interweb.”

Keys to the City Philly features:

* Exclusive interviews with the Roots and Diplo (featuring the premiere of a brand new Diplo track).

* ?uestlove came through with his quintessential playlist of songs recorded by Philadelphia natives or written and produced by notable Illadelph residents.

* An exclusive Mad Decent DJ mix (and a chance to win a Mad Decent prize pack).

* An essay on Philly Music by Okay Player.

* Photo slideshows from The Roots Picnic and Mad Decent Block Party.

* A Philly Music playlist by Jazmine Sullivan.

This is not a definitive picture of Philly music as I am not qualified to
present that. It’s an honest attempt at showing the unlucky who have never been what really goes on in your fair city. So I implore you; if you like what I’ve put together than show some love, write something and post a link. If you think I’m missing something (I am) than let me know, post a playlist
to the page, or send me an email. This is your music and your town, so let me hear your voice.

Jeanius: Jean Grae + 9th Wonder - Finally In Stores! + Original Samples link!

Posted on July 10th, 2008 by jelizen.
Categories: Design, Frolaborators, Music.

We thought we should mention Miss Jean Grae’s album produced by 9th Wonder “Jeanius” is finally in stores!

You can check out a blog on Blacksmith Music’s Talib Kweli’s myspace about the built up anticipation and the hurdles getting this project out. This release was plagued by the good ole ‘push back’ factor for quite a while which means the internet has pretty much had it for… i dunno, a year? But alas, after all the sample clearances and check clearances, the album was ready to be put out.

HOWEVER, the very dope cd art that was created as tributes to classic hip hop duos bc of its own creative ’sampling’ of art direction, did not get ‘cleared’ by the good ole distributor and they needed a new basic cover for retail ready ‘yesterday’ in order prevent yet another delay. Enter Frolab.

We frolaborated w/ Blacksmith to design a simple new cover (that once u open it you can re-fold to feature whichever cover you want) and handle all the final layout/ tracklist and credit changes and get the final obstacles out the way and off to print. There will also be #ed limited edition cds w/ each cover available at her shows as well as a t-shirt featuring all the covers. The original 4 covers are designed by FWMJ at rappersiknow.com.

Also check out KevinNottingham.com for a link to download of all the samples used on the album!

Buy the cd in stores or pick up the wax which has the Das Efx art!

I recently gave my feet a treat that was sorely need when Dam Funk landed in

SF. The guys from 4OneFunktion put on a tight show too, along with DJ Jay 1.

The Elbo room was packed with bodies in motion, somehow I managed a few

pics of Dam and Co.
