All i can say is” De La Soul Is Not Dead “!
Artist Fro-Phile: Joe Buck
Creative eye behind ” De La Soul is Dead “ is releasing a series of classic album art work remixed by Buck in his iconic fashion. Big things coming in 09 from Joe. Stay tuned.

From Crate Kings
We pretty much love any album cover with a sampler and vinyl on it. Designer Joe Buckingham aka Joe Buck has begun an ongoing series of album cover reinterpretations entitled ReVisions. Notice the addition of turntables, records, mics, and speakers… it’s a beautiful thing.
See Joe Buck’s website for more info about the series.

Most recently I had the pleasure of glancing at this photograph in one of my favorite fashion magazines. The likeness in the image seemed so familiar …….but I wasn’t sure. Then upon closer inspection I noticed that , yes indeed it was Erykah Badu. It turns out that E. has inked a deal with Tom Ford to be the face of a fragrance christened with the name White Patchouli. It is said to be sleek and woodsy with notes of elegant white flowers. According to Ford the intention is to channel the sultry aspect of a women from the sixties and seventies and and give her a clean modern chic scent. I’m not the biggest Patchouli fan but I think this one is at least worth a whiff. To get one though you’ve got to make it a Neiman Marcus or other fine fragrance retailers. This scent is an addition to Ford’s already established fragrance line which also features Black Orchid a dark woodsy rich fragrance that’s meant to evoke a sense of mystery.

Day One, November 28th, 2008: The City of God
Whaddup family!
I’m a long, long way from Harlem right now, having just arrived in Rio De Janiero, Brazil. We checked into the hotel, it was around midnight, and across the street were two kids practicing their dribbling skills in a park dimly lit by the street’s lamp post. We’re not talking b-ball, though. This country’s equivalent fever sport is Soccer. I thought about back home, though, and immediately thought that if i was in Foster Projects at the same time in the late evening, it would’ve been two youths working on their crossover skills with their hands, not feet. It’s all love.
Tomorrow, I’m spinning at the Hutuz Hip Hop Festival which features MC and B-boy battles, skateboarding, and a streetball tournament. I will be in my element, and in e-f-f-e-c-t. Can’t wait. Sunday we’re supposed to hit the favelas, which is their version of the “hood,” only way more impoverished and dangerous than we can imagine on American standards. www.mycypher.com, who organized bringing me, Toni Blackmon, and other artists out as a cultural exchange, will be covering the whole week of events which includes next Saturday’s Zumbi Hip Hop Festival in Salvador de Bahia in the Northern part of Brazil.

Last night was a huge night for the 5024SF Gallery with the showing of great
pieces from French artist Miss Van. Miss Van’s style is unmistakable coming
from Toulouse where she started she’s made a name internationally. A major
figure in the female presence in modern graffiti/Art she’s a revolutionary!

Once again the folks over at the 5024sf Gallery in San Francisco have put
together a fantastic show a personal favorite, Jeremy Fish of Silly Pink Bunnies.
Jeremy has been one of the staple artist for Upperplayground as well as being
an artist for Think Skateboarding. He has many collaborations, including the
Nike Air Classic SB, which is one of my favorite shoes of ‘07. Enjoy the show!

Peeped this in this weeks Fusicology email… The Boondocks creator, Aaron McGruder and his Partner Rumble Studio have been keeping their comedy game sharp by producing a new YouTube Channel appropriately titled, “Boondocksbootleg” featuring various sketches including a few by a character known as “Black Jesus” and also, “supplementary learning films” from “The American University of Negrology”. The “NEGRO HAIR (MASCULINE) 102 Volume 3: PERMS” is above. check the rest out here.
