What a busy weekend! Sorry for the delay on the recap - but here we go…
Stacy rockin a custom Frolab dress!
What a night! Thanks for everyone who came thru and blessed the room with their energy and love. It was a beautiful crowd enjoying a beautiful view…
and most importantly, the beautiful MUSIC! DJ Kaleem, Cha Cha Jones, Proh Mic and Amdex
ALL kept the room feeling good and then Stacy Epps came on and DID HER ThANG!!
She sang the Flying Lotus produced track “Cosmic Dust”, one of my personal favorites produced by Amdex “Addicted”, the Madvillian track (that still gets stuck in my head!) “Eye” & of course the bangin single “Floatin.” Listen to a 22 minute montage of the audio from all my mpegs from the night that were too dark to post the video but we can still enjoy the music!!
Shouts out to her band Rhythm Child - Everette James on drums , Amdex at the tables & Rashida Ali on the flute! & lets talk again about the house and the VIEW!!

Los Angeles 180º around you! It was so beautiful to take in the whole experience. & also we MUST not forget to mention the visual art provided by frolaborators HVW8

Her pieces completely transformed the room and for those of you who were there you got to witness her talent in action as she did a live painting of Stacy.

emoniFela hosted the jam session with Computer Jay on the Fender Rhodes, J1 on drums & more artists adding to the rhythms…
& we had quite a few unexpected guests…
including Prince Po, Droop & DRES! We got some of Flava for the Month and lots of impromptu musical moments that are exactly what’s supposed to happen at jam sessions!
All in all - a really beautiful night. Many thanks to everyone who came out and to the crew -Charyn and Project MuzeEd, Kasey at VeeV, Asya and Fusicology, Asad from Footlong Development, Ty G at HVW8 and everyone at the House of Armour - Chris, Mike - and everyone who helped out before, during & after! The entire event was a fantastic frolaboration!!
The best of wishes go out to Stacy & EJ as they head over to Europe tomorrow for a few months of spreading the music with Roxanne Shante, Bahamadia, Yarah Bravo and Invincible. Cop the album “The Awakening” NOW AVAILABLE ON iTUNES! & also in-store at TurntableLab LA, FatBeats or buy it direct from her myspace page (recently redesigned by Frolab) www.myspace.com/stacyepps! Don’t sleep - this is 1 that your will WANT to listen to… more than once!! In this day and age there aren’t that many new albums that even get repeat status in the rotation - but you can’t even get tired of hearing her sweet and warm voice. & If you happen to be in a town she’s heading to, be sure to check her out!!

Lots to do this infinitely celebratory day! A few events worth checkin out -
The “Got Next” Obama Art show @ HVW8 starts early so that’s the first stop. We went by earlier this week during installation and it was very cool!
Can’t wait to see the finished show tonight…

Then, a free Nike event which should not disappoint. 88 drummers for 88 minutes starting at 808 at the LaBrea tar pits. The event is celebrating the launch of the Nikesportswear.com and the opening ceremony of the Olympics (set your DVR!!)
& we can wrap the night up at Echoplex to check PPP + Muhsinah + GLK + Kutmah.
Then we gotta rest up to get all the necessary energy for the ‘no relief from the sun, in the middle of the desert w/ no breeze, hot as you know where, i don’t drink enough for this’ experience… also known as ‘Rock the Bells’ on Saturday! I’m excited… honest. De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde - gonna be crazy!! Just bring the coconut oil and one of them umbrella hats. That sun is no joke!!
See ya there!

The ever soulful Noelle Scaggs will be opening for Mr Dwele this Thursday at the Roxy- so you know Frolab will be in the house for what’s sure to be a fro-tastic night! Noelle’s next project “The Reluctant Wheel” is coming soon - you can hear some of her material on on myspace + HVW8’s podcast
& Also - check out her “alter ego” Isis Wise - a “fictional” singer/songwriter! This woman is fierce - keep her on your radar!

So the word is out (thanks OKP, On Smash, Nah Right and to the trailer too- it is quite a teaser). Video Rahim and I have been frolaborating on this documentary on Talib Kweli for sometime now (98-05) and because of some red tape, the doc has not been completed as of yet. So after 10 years of working on it, we decided to at least release the trailer for all the fans to see and - who knows - maybe add some pressure to the powers that be to help make this doc a reality for Kwe’s fans and fans of Hip Hop Docs. We shot over 200 hours of footage over them 10 years, including classic RE shows to Black Stars first performance in Atlanta… to me touring with Kweli on the Beasties tour and with him and Kanye West overseas.

So lets see what you the fans can do to help make this film see the light of day on your DVD player and not just on youtube!
Also check our reel (Nonstop MovieWorks aka “the Culture Capture Champs”) for some more classic spitage from MF DOOM, Jay Z, Oukast and more…

The final details are falling into place so look forward to much more coverage of this event in the upcoming weeks. So far we got Rhettmatic, DJ Kaleem & Amdex providing the vibes and many many SPECIAL INVITED GUESTS are scheduled to come thru for the jam session so you WON’T want to miss this! Got hipped to this from a cat named Will who sent us this press release - Thats what i like to see in the inbox something relevant, informative and good!
Here some info about the project and links to a dope playlist.
“I‘ve never dripped sweat onto the floors of The Ukie, made it out to “Making
Time,” got my fingers dusty at Armands, or stumbled across The Roots rockin’
the corner of 5th & Passyunk. I wasn’t there. So I live vicariously through
you lucky few that were there or are there now. In an effort to exorcise my
envy I started a project called Keys to the City focusing on Philly.I enlisted the help of my two favorite Philly artists (the Roots and Diplo) and a website that basically taught me about hip-hop (okayplayer) to tell your story to the world wide interweb.”
Keys to the City Philly features:
* Exclusive interviews with the Roots and Diplo (featuring the premiere of a brand new Diplo track).
* ?uestlove came through with his quintessential playlist of songs recorded by Philadelphia natives or written and produced by notable Illadelph residents.
* An exclusive Mad Decent DJ mix (and a chance to win a Mad Decent prize pack).
* An essay on Philly Music by Okay Player.
* Photo slideshows from The Roots Picnic and Mad Decent Block Party.
* A Philly Music playlist by Jazmine Sullivan.
This is not a definitive picture of Philly music as I am not qualified to
present that. It’s an honest attempt at showing the unlucky who have never been what really goes on in your fair city. So I implore you; if you like what I’ve put together than show some love, write something and post a link. If you think I’m missing something (I am) than let me know, post a playlist
to the page, or send me an email. This is your music and your town, so let me hear your voice.will abramson

From my man Sucio…
*It all starts at Katra this tues I’ll be rocking there from 10p - 3am. This is a Danny Castro presentation so you know it will be crazy. Oh yeah this is a FREE party.
Katra / 217 Bowery / New York, NY 10002 / 10 - 3am

* After that on Thursday make sure to tune in to the best Hip Hop show in NY Squeeze Radio. My guests will be Immortal Technique, Wale, Blu & Exile and Mickey Fatcz. YUP! Packed house plus the BEST Hip Hop available.
Squeeze Radio / Thurs night aka Friday morning from 1-5am / 89.9FM / NYC
* Then on Friday is off to the Powerhouse Arena when as part of the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival we will be having the High Water Music showcase. In case you didn’t know High Water Music is my label and this is our first major event so I expect to see all of you there. I will be on the wheels alongside Evil Dee and a lot of other legendary djs that I can’t tell you about (I love surprises). Also performances by all of the High Water Music artists and very special guests (again surprises people). Remember this is an early event 6 - 9pm. Oh did I mention is FREE plus FREE drinks. Yeah it’s THAT fly.
Powerhouse Arena / 37 Main Street / Brooklyn, NY 11201 / 6 - 9pm

* The next day Saturday is the mother of all summer events. Who needs DumberJam when we have the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival? High Water Music will be there repping as Fresh Daily and Sputnik Brown will be gracing the main stage. Make sure you donate so that we can keep one of the only few events that care about good music alive. It all goes down at:
Empire Fulton-Ferry State Park / 26 New Dock St / Brooklyn, NY 11201 / 4-8pm
* The fun doesn’t stop there, on tues the 15th it goes down at the Knitting Factory when The Lunchroom returns. The Lunchroom is a showcase I established to provide a platform for the best up and coming talent in Hip Hop to catch wreck. On the 15th you can catch performances by:
Reef The Lost Cause / CyMarshall Law / Nola Darling / Daniel Joseph / Brok’n English / with music by 2 Hungry Bros
Knitting Factory - New York / 74 Leonard Street / New York, NY 10013 / 9 - 1am
And just in…

On Sunday nights you can listen as I catch wreck on the wheels here.
Is the first Latin Hip Hop show in NY so if you like what I do on the Squeeze Radio show once in a while you will like this.
The show is hosted by Coo-Kee who to me is like the Marley Marl of Puerto Rico. If you understand spanish you will love this show, dude is pretty much crazy!!! Lots of jokes, fake commercials and other crazy things.
The show is every Sunday from 7- 8pm on 95.9FM NYC or here
I am the “guest” on tonight’s show so look out for me speaking Spanish. Spread the word!!!

I recently gave my feet a treat that was sorely need when Dam Funk landed in
SF. The guys from 4OneFunktion put on a tight show too, along with DJ Jay 1.
The Elbo room was packed with bodies in motion, somehow I managed a few
pics of Dam and Co.
