Our peoples Kool Bob Love aka Bobbito Garcia is featured in this dope docu shot by Adam Yauch (Beastie Boys)

Here is some info about the flick.

Directed by Adam Yauch (of the Beastie Boys), Gunnin’ follows eight of the country’s hottest high school basketball players as they play on the world’s most famous outdoor court: Rucker Park in Harlem — a place where nicknames are branded and legends are made.

Blending this next generation of b-ball players with a mix of raw hip-hop, jazz and break beats, Adam Yauch’s unique kinetic filmmaking makes Gunnin’ an explosively entertaining look at soon-to-be NBA All Stars.

The film features Jerryd Bayless, Michael Beasley, Tyreke Evans, Donte Greene, Brandon Jennings, Kevin Love, Kyle Singler and Lance Stephenson

Gunnin’ (Oscilloscope Pictures) In theaters now. Check out the trailer.

His name is “Jesus Shuttlesworth”

Its a good week to be a black man huh? First Tiger Woods came and gave us a bonus day of official championship play winning the US Open. Then we witness an (almost) completely all black NBA team led by a black coach and Jesus Shuttlesworth - they ALL got game!! And, to quote Nito - “we are talking about basketball here.” Mucho props to Kobe for making it this far “with a bunch of bums” (to quote Brother Raheem) but we gotta give a respectful congratulations to the Celtics for putting the cap on a great season.

Jonathan Ogden in Nonstop

We’re really late with this 1 but my latest google search for ‘massinfluence’ popped up this gem! Jonathan Ogden (B’more Ravens) was caught on the red carpet in one of his exclusive Nonstop Matereal Works tees we sent him a few seasons ago. We had to do a special run just for the big guy! Thanks for the love JO - we got some new ones coming soon!

Big shout out to the unsuspecting frolaborator below who amazingly agreed to let me take a flick of his fro…even after we spotted him through the D train window…jumped…(Willie Hutch’s “Foxy Lady” playing)… ran about 10 steps to get inside the train while holding the doors open with my left leg … handed him a pick fros flyer… narrowly, (of course) escaped the closing doors while yelling, “can we take a pictuurreee?”…!!

to which he nodded yes… as the train took off. (really)

u never know where, or when, or even how you might get pick’d…

Snoop knows what time it is! Today we went to support our friend’s kids in their final game vs. Snoop Dogg’s Steelers Team. Unfortunately for the people I went to see, Snoop won. The parents in the stands were off the hook!! Also on the the field, Coach Mack 10 & his kid for the Home team. Snoop gave a very motivational speech to both teams after the game and gave each kid their opportunity to take a pic with “The Doggfather”. He noted that some of those kids will be in the NFL someday and hopefully he’s right! Check out the website to find out more about the Snoop Youth Football League. & check out his show on E! (Shouts out to Noezy!!)

We have a treat for all the boxing fanatics, patiently awaiting for coverage they can give a proper head nod to… With over 2400 hits in the first week of launching the series (which is about the same amount of Brits singing in the front row during this weekend’s Hatton vs Mayweather mayhem) Guard Your Grill Boxing takes sports, hip hop and folks you wanna catch at the barbershop talking about boxing …um to the ring?

BIG BIG congrats to Guard Your Grill’s own Ivan “Dox” Barias, as well as Carvin “Ransom” Haggins (who make up the supersonic production duo Karma Productions) on their recent GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B song, “Teach Me” (think Musiq Soulchild).

Stones Throw Records and Nike hosted Zombie Wars 3-on-3 basketball tourney with LA’s finest streetwear shops (GreyOne,UNDFTD,) blocks (Fairfax & La Brea) and arthouse (HVW8) and music shops(TTL, Amoeba).
I was asked to play with my HVW8 crew, but I wasn’t trying to be the first on the stretcher. LOL! The HVW8 Allstars did win their first two games to make it to the play-offs - but then got beat by who-else? UNDFTD! Who also won the whole thing! Shout out to Peanut Butter Wolf, Jamie & Madlib, Arsen & the Kendo crew, Chace & Arnold and my folks at UNDFTD.

A New Champ is Here!

Steve

Congratulations to Steve “USS CUNNINGHAM” on his recent win as IBF Cruiserweight CHAMPION of the world. After a highly disputed rematch was ordered, Cunningham set sail to Poland last saturday to reclaim his title against Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

Hailing from Philly, Cunningam is now the only world champion in the city of brotherly love and vows to continue to bring excitement and raw talent back to the ring. “This has been a long hard road and we stuck to the game plan and proved to some naysayer’s that said we had to knock him out to win this belt.”

What’s next? “I would prefer to unify the belts and with my promoter also having Jean-Marc Mormeck- hopefully that’s a fight that can be made.”

Keep your eye out on this next Boxing icon- we are.

super funky bikes, originally uploaded by FROLAB.

After almost 6 months here, we can clearly see that LA is a bike friendly city & we went bike crazy this weekend… first stop: the Pasadena Bike Fest. Spending so much time around all the fixed gear bikes has made us decide that thats the way to go! Been researching these bikes for the last few years and have seen the impact it has made on the new hipster crowds and an increase of people opting for a job as a bike messenger. There’s also a level of design that can take a while to swallow for most, but the things we see people doing creatively with these modes of transpo is inspiring to say the least.

Here are some of the mock- ups of the Frolab custom fixed gears coming to a city near you or no where near you!

Then we went by the Bicycle Kitchen - a “non-profit learning space run by volunteers who believe that bicycles are an ideal (and fun!) mode of transportation whose mission is to make bicycles accessible to all people… to learn about building, maintaining and riding bikes, and to create community among bike riders.”
