I grabbed my slightly dysfunctional camera and frospotted some fresh art, cool people and good tunes at the 55 DSL store for the Seen on Audio exhibit. It was packed. Pete Rock was once again providing the right kind of head bop everyone could appreciate. The artists threw a fresh spin on the wall- And I even spotted a tea cup doggie sippin some Stella and snappin his paws to the Sound of Art (for this- you’ll have to check out frotos here…)

Is the first Latin Hip Hop show in NY so if you like what I do on the Squeeze Radio show once in a while you will like this.
The show is hosted by Coo-Kee who to me is like the Marley Marl of Puerto Rico. If you understand spanish you will love this show, dude is pretty much crazy!!! Lots of jokes, fake commercials and other crazy things.

While watching this story abt how BET/MTV are loosing advertisers bc of their explicit rap content, I ended up listening then watching to the story that came next, on 23-year-old musician Esperanza Spalding. This beautiful afronista is doin her thing on a upright bass while singing jazz melodies that warm up your insides! Dopeness.

La G n I headed to miopuma, ivette urbaez and evelyn fernandez’ uptown exhibit this weekend. We not only went over the official ATL rolodex check with Leopoldo (Sound of Art) - but we got to feed Annie grapes, tear up a pretty addictive wine n cheese spread, and enjoy Dominican art. Yessss

According to targetmarketnews.com, Black women in the United States spend more than $20 billion on apparel each year. Unfortunately the runways, magazine spreads and the image/beauty industry at large are increasingly ignoring their buying power by choosing instead to market an Eastern-European form of beauty as the standard. At New York’s September 2007 Fashion Week the runways were dominated by white faces. In fact, Black women were more absent from the runways than some fashion insiders have seen since the ’60s. Of the 101 runway shows, more than 1/3 employed no Black models; most of the others used just one or two. So is the fashion industry racist or are Blacks simply not in season? BET News Producers Betsy Jones and Catherine Rogers went behind the scenes of New York’s Fashion Week to find the answer in a half hour special, FASHION BLACKOUT. Industry insiders, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Naomi Campbell, Bethann Hardison, Tyson Beckford, Tracy Reese, André Leon Talley and many others sound off about the sharp decline in African American images in the fashion industry, the blatant racism and their plans on how to keep the Black model from becoming extinct. FASHION BLACKOUT will explore these issues and how the exclusion of an entire race has a negative effect on Black women and their sense of self-worth.
